The Richmond Lions Club has been an active organization for more than sixty years. In that time the club ranks have risen and fallen. Whether we're bursting at the seams or running at more manable levels we've had one objective in mind - to serve our community. To help those, who no fault of their own, need a little extra assistance.
The Richmond Lions Club is a multi-generational club. Several members have followedin their fathers footsteps and joined the club to continue the service work their father founded.
Since the International Convention of 1920, when Helen Keller challenged the
Lions to become "Knights of the Blind in the battle against darkness," sight
conservation has been a high priority of Lions service. In keeping with the
commitment made to Ms. Keller in 1920, the Richmond Lions continue to put
the aid of the visually impaired as one of our highest priorities. But we
don't stop there.
The Richmond Lions Club regularly donates to programs to
help the physically and mentally challenged. Our goal is to help those in
our community who through no fault of their own, need a helping hand. We
work closely with the Richmond Disability Resource Centre and aid them in
several ways each year.
Starting in 2007, we established a scholarship
fund for a deserving Richmond teen who would like to enter a vocational
trade. Unlike traditional scholarships, this is to be given to a worthy
individual based on a series of criteria, not necessarily based on academic
ability.
The Richmond Lions Club has been the sponsor club for at least one local Lions Club.
On top of all that, we still manage to enjoy the fellowship that goes along with satisfying our primary goals.
