Sockeye Run Welcomes Richmond Photo Club
Yet another reason to preregister for the 2016 Richmond Lions Sockeye Run.
The first 100 pregistrations will receive a free digital photo of their car.
Here's the deal. The Richmond Photo Club has agreed to photograph the Sockeye Run this year. Everybody who is pre-registered will be assigned a photographer who will come around during the show and photograph your car. After the show your photographer will analyze and select the best photo of your car and after the appropriate touch-ups will e-mail that photo to you.
Members of the Richmond Photo Club will be present at the Sockeye Run on June 12th, to take photographs. The photo club has a membership of sixty six photographers, and approximately ten to fifteen members will be involved in this new Special Photo Project.
This dedicated photography club meets two to four times per month to hone their skills, have their photographs judged and meet other avid photographers. Their oldest member is over eighty years old and the youngest is in their early twenties. Each year the club undertakes approximately six special projects. For 2016 the Richmond Lions Club is pleased to announce that the Sockeye Run has been chosen as one of the six events.
The club moto is “Focus on Creativity” and the specialty custom cars and trucks on display at the Sockeye Run are all unique, and ooze creativity. The fit is natural, and should be a benefit to both the photo club and the Lions.

Electric Car Curious?
Get a glimpse of the future at this year's Sockeye Run Show and Shine. The inaugural Electric Vehicle Showcase features 8 different plug-in electric vehicles, along with both owners and dealers available to share their wealth of information and experience with you. Given the increasing interest in electric vehicles, many drivers want to know if their particular needs and driving style would suit an electric vehicle now or at some point in the future. This is an opportunity to get independent advice and separate fact from fiction. In addition to the environmental benefits, find out why electric vehicles save money and are so much fun to drive.
Does an electric vehicle have enough range to meet my needs? What about finding a charging station? How much will I save on gas? What are the maintenance costs? How about replacing the battery? Can the electric grid support a sudden increase in the number of electric vehicles? Is it really going to significantly reduce my household greenhouse gas emissions? Get the answers to these questions and more from electric vehicle drivers who began with the same questions.
The Showcase is being organized by Plug-in Richmond
Plug-in Richmond an independent group of Richmond electric vehicle drivers and Emotive BC which raises awareness of plug-in electric vehicles in B.C. Their exhibit includes a Tesla Model S P90D which in Ludicrous Mode does 0-100 kph in 3.0 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kph.
Participating Richmond area electric vehicle dealers are Applewood Nissan, Auto West BMW, Cam Clark Ford Richmond, Dueck on Marine GM, Electra Meccanica, Kia West and Metrotown Mitsubishi.
Best In Show
BEST IN SHOW – 2015 SOCKEYE RUN
“Best in Show”- winner at the 2015 Sockeye Run Car Show in Steveston, was the 1957 Chev Pickup owned by Jerry Hickey of Surrey. It was the first time Jerry showed this truck as he only purchased it in May, 2015, from the previous owner in Montreal.
The truck was extensively modified and painted beautifully in two contrasting colours of paint with original graphics in between the colours. The pickup bed tilts with hydraulics and the hood tilts forward. The engine is a 350 cu. in., 400 horsepower, well chromed Chev engine. The transmission is a turbo 400 and the rear end is a 9 inch Ford. The front suspension is a Mustang 2 system and the front wheels now stop with modern disc brakes.
The interior is gorgeous in both style and finish and won best interior at the 2015 Sockeye Run. The interior includes an Alpine stereo system, DVD player, an attractive overhead console, power windows and many other modifications.
The previous owner spent five years building the truck. He also had a 1932 Ford Coupe. With only the space in his shop for one vehicle and money needed to finish the hot rod, the truck was put up for sale and Jerry became the lucky new owner.
Jerry loves his older Chevy pickups. He built two 1955 Chevs and a 1946 Chev previously. After the Sockeye Run Car Show in June of last year, Jerry showed the pickup nine more times in the summer and won awards in seven of them.
Due to the quality of workmanship and its colourful appearance Jerry’s truck is featured on the Sockeye Run Poster this year. The Richmond Lions Club hope to see Jerry back again at the Sockeye Run in 2016.

Sponsorship
The Sockeye Run Car Show & Shine is fueled by generous sponsors. As well, sponsorship money provides the Richmond Lions Club with valuable funding allowing us to support the many people that are not as fortunate as us. We focus on helping needy children and families, within our own community.
Richmond Lions members work very hard to present the Sockeye Run on show day and work countless hours contacting former sponsors and potential new sponsors. We are a diverse group of individuals but are like minded when it comes to helping people that need it, thus all the hard work turns into fun. Sponsor support is what has kept the Sockeye Run operating all these years!
